Hey!
Thanks for checking out the YouTube Music Beautifier extension. Let's talk about privacy.
By and large, this extension doesn't collect much data. Essentially everything stays on your computer, and only 3 things ever leave.
What is transmitted:
The current song's title
The current song's album
The current song's artist
Why it's transmitted:
We need these three things to find the lyrics for your song. They are processed and sent to one of a few places.
Our Server. Your data passes through our server, which uses it to get lyrics from one of the databases we use.
YouTube. This one shouldn't be surprising- we try to get the lyrics from here first.
MusixMatch. This is one of the "backup databases". We query Musixmatch for lyrics if YouTube does not have them.
NetEase. This is another one of the "backup databases", and like above, it is only asked if YouTube returns nothing.
Lrclib & Megalobiz. These 2 are also "backup databases", but they are used less often.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. We do not keep logs of your data, but we cannot speak for the lyric providers listed above.
If you are concerned about this, I encourage you to read their privacy policies or look into self-hosting the lyric server (info on our GitHub)
Thanks for taking a look!
