Hey!

Thanks for checking out the YouTube Music Beautifier extension. Let's talk about privacy.

By and large, this extension doesn't collect much data. Essentially everything stays on your computer, and only 3 things ever leave.

What is transmitted:

  • The current song's title
  • The current song's album
  • The current song's artist
  • Why it's transmitted:

We need these three things to find the lyrics for your song. They are processed and sent to one of a few places.

  • Our Server. Your data passes through our server, which uses it to get lyrics from one of the databases we use.
  • YouTube. This one shouldn't be surprising- we try to get the lyrics from here first.
  • MusixMatch. This is one of the "backup databases". We query Musixmatch for lyrics if YouTube does not have them.
  • NetEase. This is another one of the "backup databases", and like above, it is only asked if YouTube returns nothing.
  • Lrclib & Megalobiz. These 2 are also "backup databases", but they are used less often.
  • Is my data stored anywhere?

No. We do not keep logs of your data, but we cannot speak for the lyric providers listed above.

If you are concerned about this, I encourage you to read their privacy policies or look into self-hosting the lyric server (info on our GitHub)

    Thanks for taking a look!
